Apocalypse preview.
Well the preview is live for apocalypse. As far as rule books go games workshop have done a great job on the iOS version. With plenty of quick links to make searching for rules much faster.
Revisiting Dark Eldar #3
Finished my first squad of DE Warriors tonight. I'm not as happy as I was with the scourges. But I think this is just the fact the the scourges are such a stunning model.

Revisiting Dark Eldar #2
I fished out an old Venom That I had from my previous DE army. And got to stripping paint off of it. I am loving the Purple look of the Scourges I painted previously, So it made sense to continue this, As I have found a new love for my DE.
I did a basic Air brush job with a Purple that was mixed out of Vallejo Model air White. And Naggaroth Night citadel Paint. After painting the entire model Purple I decided that a section of the plating should be Black to break up the color. I liked how this turned out so any future Vehicles and fliers will have the same sort of appearance as the Venom, Especially the Razor wing Jet fighters.
I then added a few glyphs using a Letraset 0.1 fine line drawing pen. These came out better this way that if i had tried to do it by hand. It may have looked better if I had a used some Decals. But being as all i could fined where Chaos and Tau. this had to do.
I decided on a small amount of weathering. Using a Ripped off piece of sponge and some Bolt gun metal I lightly dabbed areas, and streaked lines across the sides to give the appearance of scratches down the side, as if the venom had been used to ram into the side of a tank so the occupants (normally Incubi) could leap onto the tank and assault it. They are space pirates after all "GARRRR"
I don't think it turned out too bad at all, considering how it looked before. Just black undercoat with some wobbly bright green lines down the panel joins.
Doing this has also made me realize, The more you try to copy GW pictures the worse your painting becomes. Trying to copy a style that was done by professionals who have been doing it for years is never going to produce good jobs, so its better to just do your own thing. As then there is nothing to compare it against and you don't feel disappointed with your self.
Anyway. PICS!!!!!

Revisiting Dark Eldar
Ok so i did collect Dark Eldar, But I hated the painting on them. It was very slap dash, and was also the first fully painted army i finished. I just never liked the look of them my painting was not very good at all. I ended up Selling everything on Ebay or so i thought. And that actually funded most of my Tau army.
However I found a Box Of unmade UN-painted Scourges. So I decided to Have a go at painting them, And see if my painting had improved.
Well I have just finished them tonight, Took me most of last night and some of this evening to get them to a standard that I am happy with.
I am actually pretty happy with how they came out. And I am loving the purple. So I will probably pick up a box of warriors tomorrow, And see how they turn out.

Forge World: Legion Glaive
Forge world have just announced that on the 28th of this month, the Legion Glaive will be available. They are currently taking pre-orders for the new super heavy tank that is based off of the Fellblade. Why should we order one?
Well lets start at the Base stats. Ballistic Skill 4, Front Armour 14, side Armour 13, and rear Armour 12. And then there are the 4 Structure points, For those not currently playing Apocalypse games or Horus heresy games. 4 structure points is the same as 12 Hull points. So just like its Brother the Fellblade this tank can take a few hits.
Then we have the difference over the Fellblade. The new and I have to say mighty destructive Volkite Caronade. The VC is a Heavy beam weapon. So you draw a line from the turret to the maximum range. In this case 48". Plus on the Heavy Beam rules this Beam is 1" wide rather than the normal 1mm wide beams we have.
With the exception of Swooping Monstrous creatures, and Zooming fliers, anything under the 1" wide beam friend or foe. Takes a STR 8 AP 2 hit. If the beam happens to hit a Super Heavy Vehicle, Gigantic Monstrous Creature. Or intact Building. The beam stops dead. And it gives D3 + 1 hits to the unit or building blocking the beam, instead of just 1 hit. And all these hits are resolved at the STR 8 AP 2 profile.
It is also important to note that the weapon also does not loose streangh for every model it hits. Causing the same damage to the last model under the beam as it does to the first model under the beam.
Also on the weapons side of things the Glaive has to sponsons on either side. Normal for a heavy tank but these are quad lascannons, Not twin linked. But actualy 4 lascannons per side givving the Glaive the abiliy to fire 8 lascannon shots per shooting phase.
It allso comes with the obligatory twin linked heavy Bolter on the fron of the Tank, As well as Smoke launchers and a search light.
The quad Lascannon sponsons can be traded for Laser destroyer sponsons for no extra points cost, and the twin linked heavy bolters can be exchanged for twin linked heavy flamers for no extra cost either.
You can also add a Hunter Killer Missile for 10 Points, and Armoured Ceramite for 25 points.
The base cost of the Tank comes in at 625 points. But for the destructive power it brings these are wisely spent points. Of course these are just the experimental rules for the tank. But I doubt they will change much if at all.
Forge world are charging the same for the Legion Glaive as they do for the Fell blade £155. And I could not resist I had to grab one of these for my up and coming World Eaters project.
Now for the model itself. The Legion Glaive was designed by Stuart Williamson. I realy like the model, it looks some what menacing. The cannon itself does just look like an Over sized Plasma gun. But I will forgive it.

In the box: Star Wars X-Wing
I finally picked up X-Wing today after around a month of debating to get it or not. The last few nights I have been watching Mini Wargaming Bat-Reps. If you are not a MWG vault member I suggest getting it. There so many great Videos to watch online and hundreds of tutorials to learn from. Costs around $2.99 Canadian. So sign up.
We then get our dice, 3 defense and 3 attack, our movement dials and assorted tokens to mark different effects on the ships.
We then have the Pilot cards that give us the ship stats. The pilots you get in the starter set range from basic pilots all the way up to Luke Skywalker. Each pilot has its own points costs and different special abilities, as well as what extra items they can take.
The starter set for X-Wing costs £30 in most stores I got it a little cheaper at £24 due to having a family member work there. The starter set provides everything you need for some great little battles consisting of two Tie Fighters and an X-Wing.
The box is of rugged design consisting of thick cardboard and a tough outer coating, this is useful as Battlefoam sell a insert for this box so that you can store a good selection of ships and cards in the original box, reducing the costs of protecting the models you collect for it.
Inside the box we fined both a quick start guide that let's you setup and play straight away, as well as a glossy 28 page, full color rule book.
We also fined inside, a selection of the movement templates that allow you to pull of the moves in the game as well as a double sided Range ruler.
We then get our dice, 3 defense and 3 attack, our movement dials and assorted tokens to mark different effects on the ships.
As mentioned above some pilots can take extra items, we get smaller cards for these items, some of these are one use only and others are multiple use like R2-D2's ability to restore a shield on the X-Wing. We also have are damage cards. That you place face down for normal damage or face up for critical damage.
And now the ships. As I mentioned before in the starter set you get two Tie Fighters and one X-Wing, the ships are very well detailed and come fully painted ready to play.
The game itself plays very well. Although the 28 page rule book covers every rule you need to know, the most important thing to learn is strategies and how to use your ships ability's. And this makes what seems at first a very simple game, become very challenging and fun to play.
I recommend buying two starter boxes. The cost of buying the ships separately to boost your fleets works out cheaper to just buy a second starter box. This also gives you more dice that I found you will need, as most of the time you will be rolling 4 dice to attack. So you actually save around £10 doing it this way. Plus you then get a spare set of movement templates as well as extra tokens.
I can't give this game enough props. It really is an epic game. That can provide you with quick 10 min battles or long 2 hour all out wars. Depending on point limits and models.
There are plenty of other ships available as boosters as well. Including the millennium Falcon, and even Slave I.
All in all I give this a Grumpy rating of 89%

White Dwarf Classics: Issue #8
White Swarf Issue 8 stays the same bi-monthly release for WD, The cover is by Derek Hayes
Mervyn Lemon presents a two-page article on scratch-building your own figures in Monster Modelling, Fun to read, but not something you’re likely to want to do now
The first part of the Valley of the Four Winds by Rowland Flynn is a typical fantasy quest where the good guys must gather advice, allies and magic items before a final battle against evil. A brass wind god torments the city of Farrondil, extorting the kingdom unless Hero and his brave band can stop it, and the rise of evil creatures from the east.
The Fiend Factory features a number of silly creatures, plus some of the best that turned up in the Fiend Folio. The Tween, Carbuncle and Coffer Corpse are the creatures that made the cut.
The cartoon Kalgar is down to a half-page this month, written and drawn by David Lloyd.
And I have also included the Games Workshop price list. As Now we have the original Space Marines: SF Land warfare Rulebook listed. It is safe to say that eventually this will become the Rogue Trader Rules. And then the Warhammer 40k we know today.
